چکیده

The unique advantages of Bluetooth such as low power consumption capability, cheap hardware interfaces and easy set-up offer new application areas. This is a reason why Bluetooth is even considered for a Service Oriented Architectures (SOAs) consisting of a large number of resource-constraint devices. Although several proposals are available for reducing power consumption for intra-piconet communication, none of them addresses the utilization of the Park mode to reduce power consumption together with the support of a large number of accessible devices. This ongoing research work bridges that gap by proposing polling based on the probability of service access for a centralized Bluetooth network of resource-constraint devices. Services of connected devices (slaves) are offered to the central device (master) which manages all communications in the network. The slaves remain in Park mode unless their services are accessed by the master. This research work shows the feasibility of our proposal.

Bluetooth and Ieee 802.11 Wireless Protocols:a Survey and a Comparison

Bluetooth and IEEE 802.11 are two communication protocol standards which define a physical layer and a MAC layer for wireless communications within a short range (from a few meters up to a hundred meters) with low power consumption (from less than 1 mW up to a hundred mW). Bluetooth is oriented to connecting close devices, serving as a substitute for cables, while IEEE 802.11 is oriented toward...

Managing heterogeneous wireless environments via Hotspot servers

Wireless communication today supports heterogeneous wireless devices with a number of different wireless network interfaces (WNICs). A large fraction of communication is infrastructure based, so the wireless access points and hotspot servers have become more ubiquitous. Battery lifetime is still a critical issue, with WNICs typically consuming a large fraction of the overall power budget in a m...

Enhancing the Bluetooth Service Discovery Protocol

Bluetooth Service Discovery Protocol (SDP) enables a client application on a device to discover information about services on other Bluetooth devices. Every service is represented by a profile, identified by a 128-bit Universally Unique Identifier (UUID). A match occurs on a peer device if and only if at least one UUID specified by the client is contained in one or more of its service records. ...

A Novel Solution to the Short Range Bluetooth Communication

Bluetooth is developed for short range communication. Bluetooth Devices are normally having low power and low cost. This is a wireless communication technology designed to connect phones, laptops and PDAs. The greater availability of portable devices with Bluetooth connectivity imposes wireless connection between enabled devices. On an average the range of Bluetooth devices is about 10 meters. ...
